Full Renovation — Louisville, Kentucky
This timber-framed structure was a cattle barn that dates back to the late 1800s. After decades of being vacant and used for storage, the current owners enlisted Rock Paper Hammer to bring the building back to life as a space for private family gatherings.
Working within the original timber-framed structure, we inserted a new second-floor loft over one end of the building where headroom allowed. The remaining main floor space includes a kitchen, bar, fireplace, and TV area. The flooring in the foyer and basement areas is reclaimed oak and brick.
The original brick foundation walls were crumbling, so temporary supports were placed to hold the structure above while a new concrete foundation was installed. The barn’s walk-out basement, where the original livestock stalls were still intact, is now a game room.
